The federal government, or national, is the first level of parliament. They meet in the Parliament House in Canberra. They have the right to make laws therefore the whole country must obey. The leader of the federal government is called the prime minister, the current prime minister of Australia is Malcolm Turnbull. The federal government has a lot of important responsibilities as it manage the whole country.

The federal government’s job are managing massive roads such as highways and road funding. They also run elections and collect taxes. Did you know that you don’t have to be an adult to pay taxes, whenever you purchase something with your own money, a part of that money goes to the government as tax. The federal government is also in charged of all health aspects and Medicare. Welfare is also another thing that the federal government is responsible for. The government provides money for people who can’t find a job, sick or people who have disabilities. That part of the money is called welfare. The federal government are also in charged of immigration and refugees, they’re responsible for defence.
